What makes our brain different from the brain of a fly? Evan Schaffer, a computational neuroscientist, talks about how the brain of a fly is and isn’t similar to our brain. He also discusses how we can use both these similarities and these differences to understand ourselves.
Evan is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at Columbia University. He is interested in machine learning and artificial neural networks, and how ideas from these fields can help us understand the human brain. He used to have hobbies, but his toddler at home makes sure there’s no time for any of them.
